I find that I get easily frustrated when I hear a world of excuses about why people cannot workout. It’s mentally exhausting trying to help others knowing that they want help or have gone out of their way and asked for your help, yet it seems that everything I try and do will get re-directed or the information never really sinks in.
For example, I get so much encouragement through my posts on Twitter or Facebook about the great calorie burns I have when I complete a workout, but in spite of that when I ask some newbies to come workout I get so many excuses on why they can’t. I understand that some people find it very difficult to find spare time for exercising or they may think that it’s too hard. The main excuses I get are usually people have to work or they have a hectic schedule at home. However, I feel that those are lame excuses to keep away from working out. If I am able to maintain my workout regimen and others cannot (even though we roughly do the same job, live the same lifestyle, have the same household chores to do, and are allotted the same 24 hours in a day), I know something is wrong.
Workout excuses that have topped the excuse list lately:
I need to get in better shape before I go to the gym!
Really? Isn’t the purpose of going to the gym is to get into better shape? That doesn’t really fly with me. In the 5 months I have been doing this, I have set foot into an actual gym, ONE TIME. And that happened when I was on vacation a few weeks ago. I have mainly worked out at home. I do go to kickboxing and I was petrified in going to that class, but no one judges at all. Why? Because we are all there for one reason alone and that is to get healthy. Which leads to the next excuse I hear...
I don’t look as good as those who go to the gym.
Stop comparing!! You cannot make the mistake of comparing yourself to others because you were not able to witness their physical appearance when they began working out. Your improvement is the only thing that matters. Who cares what anyone else thinks! You are getting healthy for you!
It's too hard!
Its supposed to be hard. If it wasn't then everyone would be skinny and we would enjoy doing it. Simple advice, just go at your own pace and do what you can do. Over time you will be amazed at what you excercises you can complete. I could never do a push up. Now I do all kinds of them, and not the girly ones either.
I do not have enough time to go to the gym or workout.
Every single person has time. You have have to make it work. Bottom line, you will be amazed how much time you have if you plan out your day and manage your time wisely.
Basically guys, I work a full time job, 40 hours a week and am a mom with kiddos that are 5 and 9 years old and are involved in activities. I am a wife, so hubby time is important as well. I also have a second job that I have had for almost 9 years. I find and make the time to workout 6 days a week. Involve your significant, your kids, and your friends into your workouts. Stop making excuses and just do it!!
All I know is that excuses will never yield any results. Just make a decision to get started and stick with your commitment. It’s the hardest thing that you can do. You will feel like you are dying and want to quit but if you stick with it, it will be the greatest choice you’ve ever made in your entire life.
