Celebrate the Non-Scale Victories!

There are so many wonderful things that happened during my weight loss journey that have nothing to do with that bathroom scale. I have had many non-scale victories (NSV) on my weight loss journey. I like to celebrate my NSV's monthly when I take measurements and photos of myself. As my weight loss ticker shows, I have lost 24lbs, but what is doesn't show is that I have lost 34.25 inches off my body!! Below are my latest photos and beginning measurements to current:

Measurements:
Rt. Arm: 11.50---10.00 (-1.50)
Lt. Arm: 11.50---10.00  (-1.50)
Bust:      41.50 ---34.25 (-7.25)
Waist:    40.00---31.00  (-9.00)
Hips:      42.00---35.00 (-7.00)
Rt. Thigh: 23.25---19.25 (-4.00)
Lft. Thigh: 23.50---19.25  (-4.25)

There are some differences between these photos and my Insanity photos at the bottom of my page. They are small, but there is a difference. That is all that matters.

About a month into my weight loss program, my progress was generally steady and pretty motivating. I am slightly obsessed with my scale which I shouldn't be, I know!! I always look forward to hopping on daily to get the good news! When I find myself not losing as often, I would tend to get discouraged so I have to make myself focus on the non-scale victories that I have achieved.

Here are a few things I have to MAKE myself think about:

  • I look at previous photos of myself. I try and take notice of all the fine details. I noticed how my face was slimming and my collar bone was visiable again.
  • I notice how my clothes fit. Some of them are getting baggy, even my workout clothes.
  • My stress levels have decreased a lot. I find myself not stressing out about much of anything anymore and my energy level has skyrocketed!!
  • Oh and those dreaded meds that we have to take every day. I take meds for my thyroid and after a recent doctors visit, I have been able to lower the dosage amounts.

These are great things to notice and are things that I know we generally don't think about. All of these great weight loss victories have nothing to do the number on showing on my scale. I have to keep reminding myself how far I've come. I know my husband likes to let me know everyday, especially when I am getting discouraged. I am so anxious to get through the “losing phase” and on to the “maintenance phase” of my journey, but I am trying as much as possible to enjoy the ride and remind myself often to be proud of my many accomplishments! I am not going to let anything keep me from my mission!
